Text ⇄ ASCII / Unicode Converter

Turn any text into its character codes — decimal, hexadecimal or 8-bit binary — or paste a list of codes and decode it back into text. Full Unicode support, so it handles far more than the original 128 ASCII characters.

Supported formats

  • Encoding: each character becomes its Unicode code point in the chosen base (binary padded to 8 bits for ASCII range).
  • Decoding: codes separated by spaces or commas, in the selected base.

Privacy

This tool runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you enter or open is sent anywhere. Privacy policy.

Limitations

  • Codes are Unicode code points, not UTF-8 bytes — multi-byte UTF-8 sequences for one character will differ from the single code point shown here.

FAQ

What is the ASCII code for A?

65 in decimal, 41 in hex, 01000001 in binary. Lowercase letters sit 32 higher — a is 97 — which is why case-flipping is a single bit flip.

What's the difference between ASCII and Unicode?

ASCII defines 128 characters (0–127). Unicode extends the same first 128 values to cover every writing system — so for English text the codes match, and this tool handles both.
