Free PDF tools that never upload your file

Most online PDF sites upload your document to their server, process it there, and ask you to trust that they delete it afterwards. These tools work differently: the PDF is opened by JavaScript inside your browser tab, modified in memory, and handed straight back to you as a download. There is no upload step, so contracts, payslips and ID scans never leave your machine.

The tools are built on two well-established open-source libraries — pdf-lib for editing and Mozilla's pdf.js for rendering — which your browser downloads from cdnjs the first time you use a PDF tool. After that, the processing happens locally.

Good to know

Large files

Because everything runs in memory, the practical limit is your device's RAM rather than a server quota. Documents of a few hundred pages work on a typical laptop; phones may struggle with very large scans.

Encrypted PDFs

Password-protected PDFs cannot be edited until the protection is removed in the program that created them. The tools tell you when a file is encrypted rather than producing a broken output.

What these tools do not do

There is no OCR, no Word conversion and no compression yet. Those are hard to do well in a browser, so they are not offered until they can be done properly.
