Image Compressor & Converter

Shrink an image's file size and convert between JPEG, PNG and WebP, with a quality slider and before/after size comparison. Compression runs on a canvas in your browser — the image is never uploaded.

Runs locally — nothing you enter is sent Image & Design Free · no signup

How to use

  1. Drop an image onto the drop zone or click to browse.
  2. Choose the output format (JPEG, PNG or WebP) and adjust the quality slider.
  3. Compare the original and compressed sizes, then download the result.

Supported formats

  • Input: PNG, JPEG, WebP, GIF (first frame), BMP.
  • Output: JPEG, PNG or WebP.

Privacy

This tool runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you enter or open is sent anywhere. Privacy policy.

Limitations

  • Canvas re-encoding strips EXIF metadata (often desirable for privacy, but note it if you need the metadata).
  • PNG output ignores the quality slider — PNG is lossless; use WebP or JPEG for aggressive size reduction.
  • Animated GIFs are flattened to a single frame.

FAQ

Which format gives the smallest file?

WebP usually beats JPEG at similar visual quality, and both are far smaller than PNG for photographs. Keep PNG for screenshots, line art and transparency.

Are my photos uploaded for compression?

No. The image is decoded and re-encoded entirely in your browser using the canvas API.
